Day 7: Rest day, Brisbane
Nau Mai
Yesterday we had another lovely day off in Brisbane.
Australian tour day 7: we continue with a grueling schedule of resting.
It was another day that began with a cooked breakfast although this one was put together mostly from leftovers. I used a microwave to reheat some of the tomato rice pilaf that Jon had cooked for dinner the night before and at the same time used the BBQ to reheat some grilled zucchini and eggplant from yesterday’s lunch. To tie it all together I fried a pair of eggs (in a frying pan) dark side down and laid them atop of the plated rice. The dish was topped with chopped coriander leaves and chili flakes.
In the afternoon there was furious action to be seen on the croquet court. The groundsman had spent the morning trimming the fine stubble from the lawn until there was nothing left to influence the pace or direction of the balls.
Look at him executing flawless diagonal passes to take the edge off yesterday’s growth.
Is croquet an olympic sport? we wondered to ourselves. And if it isn’t, why not? Thankfully with modern AI we can now answer that question and I have supplied the AI’s answer for everyone’s convenience.
It turns out that there was croquet included in the 1900 Olympic Games! But after French players won all the medals it was removed from subsequent Olympics.
This might have been the accommodation with the best access to cricket nets in all our great history of touring. Jon found a cricket store nearby and bought a new tour bat so we could take advantage of this facility. He needed to train for his indoor cricket game next week so I bravely submitted to facing some very fast bowling while Jon dialed in his perfect ball (confusingly, the ball is the small sphere that is hit by the bat in the game of cricket, and a ball is also a term used to describe an instance of the bowler bowling the ball towards the batter).
Here I am delivering my signature aggressively medium fullish ball. Probably a couple of runs to be had by the batsman from the offered shot.
