Day 7: Buffalo, NY
Nau mai
Yesterday we played a headline show in Buffalo, New York.
It was sun and blue skies when we left the hotel in Cheektowaga but by the time we had traveled eleven kilometres west to Buffalo and were loading into the venue the weather had changed dramatically. The air was as humid and thicker than a milkshake and huge raindrops were pelting us as we wheeled everything down the slick trailer ramp and across the carpark.
Gabe braves the golfball-sized raindrops dropping out of the afternoon squall.
I had a late breakfast after loading in, a hotdog I purchased from a street vendor loaded up with ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, onions, relish, and a pickle spear.
It was nice to be back at Asbury Hall. The place was still fresh in our minds having played here back in September of 2024. On the outside it was an old stone church and on the inside was the hall, handsome as ever, finely decorated and brightly lit by natural light coming through the many tall stained glass windows. The venue dog Bowie was still employed and working as hard as ever and we watched him carry out a thorough inspection of the facilities.
We bought a new guitar, a Peavey Mystic, which looks and plays great! Until now we didn’t have a spikey guitar in the band arsenal so its great to tick off this essential piece of gear.
Fans of the Gravity Gold series of picks will be disappointed to hear that I have stopped using my .75mm. It made it through about ten shows but I found that the amount of material lost from the tip was making it unplayable.
On the left my used .75mm Gravity Gold and a brand new 1.0mm. Note the bluntess at the tip of the left pick. The 1.0mm pick on the right is a little thick for my taste.
With the two picks overlapped you can really see the amount of material lost to my bass strings. At $15 a pick I was hoping to get at least a full tour from this .75mm.
Squirrel Flower playing the opening set.
A gift from a fan, this is Liz in doll form.
