Day 26: Columbus, OH
Nau mai
Yesterday we played at Kemba Live! in Columbus, Ohio.
I composed a new breakfast: guac and chips on toast. The guacamole was simple with just an avocado, salt, lime juice, chopped tomato, and a bit of salsa which hopefully brought some diluted herb and spice flavours to this dish. On the side you can see strawberries and rasberries which bring a colour balance to the plating.
From the bus: a chain link fence covered with privacy netting.
The Scioto River. I’m sure I’ve taken this exact photograph before but you must photograph any reflective water. The bridge is the Columbus Scioto River Railroad Bridge Middle, a through truss bridge with a main span of 42.7 metres. Not to be confused with the very similar Columbus Scioto River Railroad Bridge North or Columbus Scioto River Railroad Bridge South.
Kemba Live! is a very modern performance space. The cool thing about this room is that the stage is reversible. There is a large door at the back of the stage that opens to an outdoor amphitheatre (much too hot to use at this time of year).
Gabe plays a game of minesweeper on his console while we set up for soundcheck.
Liz was offering free fringe check-ups yesterday.
The Spoon truck. The crew all love it when the truck can park right in the loading dock and they don’t have to employ a forklift to get everything out.
A friendly game of cricket in the outdoor amphitheatre. The venue staff were kind enough to turn on the work lights so we could play.
Here is a clip of Squirrel Flower from last night, accompanied by the haunting tone of Jon’s recorder as he provides a beautiful solo and obbligato.
