Day 19: Haast

Welcome

Yesterday we farewelled three members of our tour party and spent most of the day driving along State Highway 6 to Haast.

I started my day with a walk around Waihōpai’s town centre.

I saw the old water tower

And the Briscoes

And the Grand Hotel

We all loaded up the van and drove to a nearby cafe for breakfast where I enjoyed a Pork Belly Burger with Teriyaki glaze, pickled vegetables, and Aioli.

Sadly it was time to leave our friends Bob, Molloy, and Anthony. We drove them to Invercargill Airport and hugged, cried, and waved goodbye as they prepared to fly back to Tāmaki Makaurau.
