Day 29: Klamath Falls, OR

Nau mai

Yesterday we took our rest day in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Our rest day was spent in a town just across the border in southern Oregon. Tristan, Gabe, and I left the bus and wandered to Main Street for breakfast, deciding to lean into the food culture of this area and commit to a full strength diner breakfast. We sat in at the Klamath Grill where I ordered the chicken friend steak, with eggs over-easy, hash brown, and biscuits on the side. Tristan and I also shared some French Toast, stuffed with ricotta and Marionberries.

Klamath Falls Main Street.

Our hotel for the day was right on the edge of Lake Ewauna, just a wee body of water but still possessing a quantity of serenity that we were grateful to have in our proximity.

Gabe and I played tennis in the afternoon. There were free public courts in the nearby Moore Park that had some new elements to keep the game interesting. Extra points could be had by passing the ball through the dip in the net while points could be lost by rolling your ankle in the cracks.

Kimberly was our heroic Uber driver and deserves a special mention. She dropped us off at the tennis court several miles out of town and was kind enough to come all the way back to pick us up again when we were done. It seems like she was also the only active driver in the town of Klamath Falls. We hope you get to 5 stars one day Kimberly.

The correct protocol when passing a hotel business centre is to access the internet on the computer and leave your favourite website open.

At midnight on the dot we celebrated Gabe’s birthday. The bus was already well underway, heading for Spokane, and we toasted our good friend while sitting around the bus lounge.

Gabriel Nardin celebrates his birthday with a rest stop at a Love’s gas station.

This is how the bus’ water tank gets refilled.

Liz has since confessed to this heinous crime.
