Day 21: Rest Day -San Diego
Nau mai
Yesterday we rested in the Southern Californian city of San Diego.
Venezuelan was my chosen breakfast cuisine. After waking up on the bus I disembarked and walked for ten minutes to get to San Diego’s old town where I hoped to visit a highly rated cafe called Encuentro. The service there was slow but thorough, and extremely friendly.
While I patiently waited I enjoyed the focused approach someone had had to decorating this corner of the room. I thought that the lack of wall spacing on the top print was a strong touch and I especially loved the studded leather print that brought an artistan touch to the exhibition of this powerful and clever idiom.
I ordered from the Venezuelan brunch menu a dish called El Margariteño - fish, black beans, scrambled eggs with tomato and onions, avocado, plantains, white cheese, and arepa.
I love a good carwash. I love the attention-grabbing architectural style of these structures and the colour choices which are always cool and refreshing citing various shades of tropical beach water.
One of the responsibilities of our tour manager Annie is that she is in charge of all hotel bookings. We are very proud to announce that recently she achieved the status level of Hilton Honours Diamond Reserve, a tier that guarantees among other things a high definition TV left on in your room on arrival displaying this glorious video of a seal enjoying the spray of the sea.
In the afternoon we went on a field trip with a few of the folks from Beach Bunny. We traveled all the way to the western edge of the city where the wild Pacific meets the rugged rocky shores at a place called Ocean beach. We descended down a treacherous cliff carrying our supplies for the day, vast quantities of food and many leisure items.
At the bottom of the cliff and below the sea wall there is a rocky shoreline that has been ground smooth by the millennia of interface with the pounding waves. When the sea retreats there are many tide pools left behind and there is the opportunity to gaze upon the creatures of the deep as they creep around their tiny environments, eating, drinking, and fighting their afternoons away.
This small crab enjoys eating some bits of sand.
We swam in one of the small coves between the rock formations and enjoyed the power of the waves trying to buffet us back to shore. We played cricket, read our books, and then enjoyed watching a large family getting professional photos taken in front of the sunset.
And here we are finishing the day with a selfie around the dinner table.
