Day 19: Yucca Valley - Rest Day
Nau mai
Yesterday we enjoyed a day off in the Yucca Valley, California.
Our fuchsia chariot drove us through the night heading south and west away from Sin City, towards the coast and a better life. When we awoke we were stopped for the day in a place called Yucca Valley, about 100 miles inland from the Pacific, and still very much in the Mojave Desert.
I made breakfast on the bus, a trio of toasted sourdough bread slices with salted avocado and salted and peppered tomato slices.
There wasn’t much to do in the town of Yucca Valley. We lay in our hotel room withering away. Jon earned himself a point by a decisive action, ordering a taxi and calling the group to action with a trip to get lunch, saving Liz who was on the bed immobilised with a Hunger State 5.
After eating we traveled to the next town, another remote desert outpost called Joshua Tree. It was far from a metropolis but we did manage to keep ourselves amused for the next few hours. We visited the crochet museum, a building that from the outside looked like a 1950s toaster and on the inside felt like a 1950s toaster despite the presence of what looked like an air conditioner tacked to the side. With the density of the exhibits it was hard to appreciate the individual pieces but once you had stood inside for a few minutes and done a few rotations you began to notice the consistent implementation of cuteness and charm in nearly every single one of these creations.
We spent our evening in the Joshua Tree Saloon. This establishment had good bar snacks, cold beer, and a hot pool table which we camped around for several hours displaying our prowess in many long and drawn out games.
Jon explains the biomechanics behind his highly optimised pool shot technique.
Liz lets the corner pocket do the explaining.
Here are the BOTHEW points for the day.
