Day 18: Greenfield, MA
Nau mai,
Yesterday we played at Green River Festival, in Greenfields, Massachusetts.
In today’s blog I hit the correct spelling of Massachusetts on the second attempt, I’m proud to announce.
We had another day in paradise. Snowpiercer was parked behind our festival stage when we woke up, and she was looking decidedly more handsome than the other two coaches she was parked next to. It was another compact festival and we were only a stone’s throw from all the important facilities that would get us through the day. I headed first to the catering tent where they were serving up tacos to a hungry queue of musicians and festival staff.
I retrieved a pair of corn tortillas and constructed myself a pair of chicken tacos with beans and rice, one with pineapple salsa, and the other with peach salsa. On the side I had some rice, mango, corn, and tortilla chips with pico de galle.
Greeenfield’s Franklin County Fairgrounds in Northwestern Massachusetts played host to the three day Green River festival. The grounds were handsome, wide and flat with lots of cute buildings that served this piece of rural infrastructure in its duties as a place for gathering. The Makers Market was packed with local handmade goods for sale, and there was a barn that housed an arts and crafts workshop full of industrious children.
The Roundhouse.
One of the cute tiny buildings scattered around the fairgrounds.
There were handwritten signs all over the festival. They looked very similar to the signs at Newport Folk Festival and we wondered if they had hired the same signwriters.
We were gifted these lovely headpieces by the wonderful people at the flower crowns stand.
Here we are packing up after the set. The protocol is to rush all your equipment off stage and place it anywhere that will not obstruct the next band that is getting ready. In this case we had a nice dry piece of grass behind the stage.
Spoon, playing the final set of the night as the final rays of light descend behind the Berkshire Mountains.
Jon completed his B Class License and was finally free to go racing. Here are the prizes from last night’s victories.
